Note: |
|
Column 1 gives the tree code. |
|
Column 2 gives the general area of the family, usually based
on the census registration district. |
|
Column 3 gives the more specific area, which is not
necessarily the birthplace of the person at the top of the tree. |
|
Trees in two parts:
|
|
Tree 8b
consists of Part One: John Mallinson, born 1640. Part Two intersects with it in the Fourth generation. David Mallinson, born 1819, Little
Lepton, was the son of Ann Mallinson S/W.
He appears in the 1841 census at 1278/6 10, Four Lands Farm, with Jacob Mallinson,
aged 50+ (52), Ag Lab, and George Mallinson, Jacob's brother, aged 38. David Mallinson's age is shown as 20+
(21). The next entry is Fanny
Mallinson, Jacob's sister, aged 45+ (47). David is clearly a member of the family, but as relationships
were not indicated in the 1841 census, it is not clear
exactly how he is related to the others.
His mother Ann Mallinson has no baptismal entry in the St.
John's, Kirkheaton PRs, and similarly no burial entry before 1841. One possible explanation is that Ann Mallinson
is one and the same as Nancy Mallinson, born 1788, Lepton, Jacob's elder sister. Nancy is a common pet form of Ann. However, this is to assume that the process worked in reverse, a girl baptised Nancy being later
called Ann. In the 1851
census, Jacob had married Frances 'Fanny' Graham, and David Mallinson had
married Sarah Mallinson, daughter of
Jonathan Mallinson and Elizabeth Holdsworth (of Tree 9). In the intervening decade he had clearly
been very succesful, becoming a Woollen Manufacturer employing forty-nine
workers. Fanny Mallinson, still
unmarried, was at folio 427, aged 57, Housekeeper to Isaac and Mary Wilkinson.
|
|
Tree L1
consists of two parts, L1(a) and L1(b).
Edmund Mallinson, born 1829, Leeds, at the top of Tree L1(b) is shown in the 1851 census as the
grandson of Joseph Mallinson and Nancy Fielding at the top of Tree L1(a). Edmund's marriage certificate (26
Feb 1851, St. Peter's, Leeds) shows no recorded father, implying that his mother was a single woman. Therefore he must be the son of one of
Joseph's daughters. Rachel, 19 July
1812, Elland, is clearly too
young. Joseph Mallinson was born 1773
in Lepton and married Nancy Fielding at St. John's, Kirkheaton, 20 Jan
1806. Martin Mallinson was conceived
pre-nuptially, circa August 1805, and born in Elland. No other daughters of Joseph and Nancy are
recorded in the St. Mary's, Elland PRs apart from Rachel. As yet, Edmund has not been located in the 1841 census.
