The material accessed from the LOCATIONS page is displayed on two further pages:-
1. Yorkshire.
2. Lancashire.
Both of these pages supply modern place names for
old/archaic place names. Some of the old/archaic places
cannot be identified with a modern location or are no
longer in existence or have a separate identity.
The information on the two pages is presented
in a tabular format.
1.
The Yorkshire page gives "Modern Names for old West Riding Places."
2.
The Lancashire page gives "Place Names within West Derby Hundred of Lancashire"
These names are extracted from 'Lancashire: A History in early Maps' -
although entitled as West Derby Hundred some of the names appear to be adjacent
to it. The Reference to Speed 1610 is to the map by John Speed of 1610 which
drew on Saxton's map of 1577.
